What exactly is a gas regulator?
A gas pressure regulator is a type of control device that maintains a system's established pressure by cutting off the flow of a gas or liquid when it reaches a certain pressure. Pressure regulators are classified into two types: direct-operated and pilot-operated.

The regulator's duty is to control the flow of gas into the system, a restricting element is added to the flow stream to offer a variable restriction that can vary the flow of gas. Some form of loading force must be supplied to this restricted element through a loading element in order for it to fluctuate. When these two flows are properly aligned, a measuring element indicates it.
If the load flow reduces, the regulator flow must likewise decrease. If the load flow increases, so must the regulator flow in order to maintain the regulated pressure from dropping owing to a gas shortage in the pressure system.
