5 Questions to ask when looking for a Magnesium ...

5 Questions to ask when looking for a Magnesium ...

There are 5 important questions you should ask when searching for a high-quality Magnesium supplement:

View Details

1. What form of Magnesium is being used?

Cheap, inexpensive forms such as Magnesium Oxide only absorb about 4% in the body and cause a severe laxative effect.*

Magnesium Citrate is a very popular form but is hard to take at high doses without getting the laxative effect. Magnesium Citrate can also cause a disruption between your iron and copper levels.*

Consider a Magnesium Malate, Magnesium Glycinate, Magnesium L-Threonate, or Magnesium Orotate. These are all highly absorbable forms and each offer unique health benefits in addition.*

2. Are there any added nutrients to enhance absorption?

Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and Folate work together to enhance Magnesium's absorption in the body.*

3. How is the Magnesium being delivered and at what dose?

Magnesium attracts water which can cause a laxative effect at high doses making it hard to take the recommended daily intake (420mg per day).*

A Magnesium supplement that delivers at least 420mg per serving is best delivered in a time release formula to give your body a steady supply of Magnesium throughout the day.*

4. Is there any clinical research backing the Magnesium supplement?

Look for a supplement with a peer reviewed clinical trial published in a credible journal.

5. Is the Magnesium Supplement 3rd party tested?

Ask if they do 3rd party lab testing to test for impurities, heavy metals, and potency. If they do, are they willing to share the lab results?

MagSRT® by Jigsaw Health addresses all 5 questions...

First, MagSRT® utilizes a Dimagnesium Malate form.

Dimagnesium Malate is formed when 2 ions of Magnesium are attached to a molecule of malic acid (an organic compound found in fruits and vegetables, especially apples) and is easily absorbed in the body.*

Malic acid has these added benefits:

  • Supports energy production.*
  • Promotes healthy relaxed muscle tone.*
  • Aids the body in detoxifying from heavy metals, such as aluminum.*

Second, MagSRT® includes Vitamin B6, Folate, and Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B6, Folate, and Vitamin B12 are included because they greatly improve Magnesium's function in the body by supporting healthy muscular tone, energy, mood, calmness, and sleep.*

Third, MagSRT® utilizes a proprietary Sustained Release Technology (SRT) delivery system.

Jigsaw's proprietary Sustained Release Technology (SRT) is the main differentiator between MagSRT® and ordinary Magnesium supplements on the market.

Instead of Magnesium being dumped into your system all at once, SRT slows down the release of Magnesium over 8 hours allowing maximum absorption...without the laxative side effect that high doses of other Magnesium supplements can cause.*

Fourth, MagSRT® is backed by clinical scientific research.

MagSRT® is the only time-release Magnesium supplement with a peer-reviewed clinical trial.

Read more here: Scottsdale Magnesium Study (SMS)

Lastly, MagSRT® is label claim verified from a 3rd party lab.

Every batch of Jigsaw Health supplements are triple-tested, and the lab results are posted online for all to see. We believe that what's on the label is what should be in the bottle, and nothing else.

I used Uckele's Magnesium Oxide 56%. Without getting off my duff and walking out to the barn, I will say that I'm 95% certain that it's just MagOx. (So...why the 56%?)
56% magnesium
44% oxide

Thanks muchly to all of you who replied to my question. Ian's response, especially, addressed my main concern, to wit: what else is in there besides the 56% or 10% mag ox? With at least one horse iron-overloaded and two ir's, I need to be very careful. I did call both companies today to see if their "experts" could shed any light and they could/would not. One guy said, "Well, you know, they just scrape it off the side of a mountain." We have to have the mag, however, so I'll just keep using what I've always used and pray....

Thanks again, y'all.

I checked in one of wholesale suppliers catalogs for bulk chemicals and was
surprised to find that "pure" Magnesium Oxide, USP has 0.05% iron (or 500 of
MgO has 0.25 g of Iron). I don't know if that it too much or not- perhaps
someone else could field that question. It is important to note that the
Magnesium Oxide is USP grade or United States Pharmacopeia grade, one of the
highest grades you can get and it still has 0.05% iron. I would think that
the feed-grade products would have higher iron concentrations in the MgO and
whatever other fillers are added to the product. Bioplex Magnesium was not
in the list of 21 magnesium chemicals listed in the catalog so it is likely
Uekele's name for their product rather than a scientific chemical name.

Uckele has two magnesium products (Bioplex Magnesium and Magnesium
Oxide) but I can't find out what's in either of those besides the mag.

I'm supplementing an IR pony who is iron overloaded. I use the
Bioplex Mag from Uckele. The label states Mag 10% (guaranteed) &
ingredients are Mag Proteinate. That's it.

just MagOx. (So...why the 56%?) Anyway, the point is, there is no
other food - corn gluten, etc. It cost $9.95 plus shipping - almost
as much as the product itself or MORE if you wait too long to order,
like me! So, I got 2# for $22.00 or $11 per pound - OK, not fair.
Not counting shipping that's almost $5 per pound.

In contrast, my MagOx 56% shipment finally got in at the feed store,
50# for $14.00 or 28 cents per pound. Quite the price differential!
What's the dif? The Uckele product is much finer, a fine, silky
powder. The feed store product is coarser. I'm thinking a morter and
pestle could resolve the difference but maybe it's just the
difference between "food" and "feed" grade. As long as I'M not
eating it, I'll save my dollars.

Hey Linda,
Can you use plain Magnesium oxide? This is feed grade-nothing else in it. I can send you some if you want to try it.
