Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) technical grade - Solvay
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) technical grade is particularly suitable for application in both high-voltage and medium-high voltage power circuit breakers.
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) is a non-toxic, inert, insulating and cooling gas of high dielectric strength and thermal stability.

It is particularly suitable for application in both high-voltage and medium-high voltage power circuit breakers as well as in high-voltage cables, transformers, transducers, particle and electron accelerators, X-ray equipment and UHF transmission systems.
The construction of new equipment with higher capacity and improved performance has been made possible by the excellent electrical, thermal and chemical properties of SF6. Changing from conventional dielectrics to sulfur hexafluoride a non-flammable, chemically-inactive and non-toxic heavy gas results in considerable space and weight savings and improvements in the operational safety of converted equipment.
SF6 is also used in medical technology: for example as a contrast agent in ultrasonic examinations as well as in ophthalmology, pneumonectomy and diseases of the middle ear, e.g. treating loss of hearing in middle ear infections.

About Sulfur Hexafluoride
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) is an inorganic, colorless, odorless, and non-flammable gas.
SF6s primary use is in the electrical industry as a gaseous dielectric medium for various voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment, often replacing oil-filled circuit breakers (OCBs) that can contain harmful PCBs. SF6 gas under pressure is used as an insulator in gas insulated switchgear (GIS) because it has a much higher dielectric strength than air or dry nitrogen. This property makes it possible to reduce the size of the electrical gear significantly.
Sulfur Hexafluoride Safety Requirements:
The cryogenic liquid will rapidly boil to the gas at standard temperatures and pressures. The liquefied gas can cause frostbite to any contaminated tissue. The main health hazard of releasing this gas is asphyxiation by oxygen displacement (see SDS for further information).
