Gear Motor 110V Gear Motor Electric Motor Variable Speed Controller
Where is a good place to buy 1/2 to 1 HP electric motors?
Grainger.com
I'm looking for the exact same motor except it has to be RPM. I think they are $260 each. Your will be around a hundred and a half new.
If you lived near me the place to go would be HGR. But since you are in west u.s. which is a pretty big place I would say just order from Grainger. All you have to do is ask. I have a 1 hp Baldor 56C frame TEFC thermally protected face mounted motor with 5/8" shaft and 110/220 input. I don't know if it can be wired bi-directional? Has a switch already wired to it.
Motor is cosmetically in great shape and works just fine. It came off a Wilton square wheel grinder that I replaced with a 3 phase motor and VFD drive to get variable speed. If you are interested, I can get some pictures for you. This is a link to the model of grinder it came off of. Wilton Grinder HGR indeed is a great place to get motors, 3 phase that is. That's actually where I got the 3 phase motor and VFD to replace the Baldor I no longer need. I built a 10hp rotary converter from a brand new GE motor I got there for $50. Motor weighs more than I do. Unfortunately a single phase motors is a very rare find at HGR. There are tons of new and used motors on eBay. Sometimes they sell as low as $.99, so you only have to pay a little more than UPS charges to get a new motor.
The new VFD's make three phase motors more attractive (valuable) than they used to be. It is really neat to run a 240V 3PH 1HP motor off a 120V single phase house outlet and have variable speed, too.
Larry Well, ebay was my first choice and couldn't find any. Lot of nice 5hp and above 3phs but not much smaller.
I also spent the day traveling to 5 different electrical shops. Not good, they quit carrying motors since they are slow to move consumerwise.
The good news is:
rivett608 hit the nail on the head. I went to the surpluscenter website and right on the from page was the exact motor I needed for $70. The frame is a little different but will work and I will need to bush for the smaller shaft size.
Decided to get 2 of them.
Thanks for the offer gradstdnt_99 but the 1Hp would have been overkill for what I need.
Thanks guys for the help and the additional leads.
Grainger does have a nice 1/8 hp rev. gear motor I plan to pickup as well.
Here is what I will be getting.
