3 Things to Consider When Choosing Aluminum Alloy ...

Aluminum is a common metal used for industrial and non-industrial applications. In most case, it would be difficult for us to choose the correct aluminum for your intended application.

For more Aluminum Alloy Elevator For Interior Decorationinformation, please contact us. We will provide professional answers.

Looking around at your house, it’s difficult to find aluminum application such as your bicycles frames and components, windows and door frames, car & carport, patio awning and pool enclosures etc.Take outdoor space cover as an example, mainly profile is the AA 6063 and AA6061.But which one is better for your outdoor space cover?

Choosing AA6063 or AA6061, it ultimately depends on how you intend to use the aluminum. If it requires complex shape like windows or some indoor decoration but strength is not the most important element. It might make sense to choose AA6063 because it has good ductile but is not typically used for high-strength applications.

Keep 3 things in mind to choose your aluminum structures AA 6063 or AA 6061.

1.Is Strength of Aluminum an important factor? Like Vehicles

AA6063- Medium Strength (8HW Temper 5 Only)

AA6061-Medium to High (12-14HW Temper 6 Only)

2.Is Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum an important factor? Like outdoor space cover

AA6063- Good Corrosion Resistance

AA6061-Excellent Corrosion Resistance

3.Is the ductility of aluminum an important factors? Like indoor decoration and others in complex curved shape

AA6063- Excellent Ductility

AA6061-Good Ductility

We have compiled a short introduction of AA6061 & AA6063 providing you a brief understanding of their usages.

AA6063: It is also known as an architectural alloy. Good finishing characteristic and high corrosion resistance. Most often applied in interiors and exteriors architectures like aluminum alloy windows and doors.

Besides, it is very suitable for anodizing applications. Thanks to its high tensile properties and good toughness, it’s widely used in angles and pipes for vehicles, benches, outdoor furniture, lifts, and fence etc. However, we have to admit the fact that AA6063 features a low hardness, weldability and corrosion resistance compared with AA6061.

AA6061:

It is the most multi-purpose heat-treatable aluminum alloy as keeping most of the good qualities of aluminum.

With better mechanical properties and corrosion resistance comparing with AA 6063, it has good workability in the annealed condition and could be welded in different methods. Thus, it is very suitable for some products where better appearance and corrosion resistance with high strength are required.

At the same times, different heat treating solution (Temper)would also affect the hardness of aluminum alloy though it is same aluminum grade. In the case of the AA6063, the “T6” indicates that it was a heat-treating solution and artificially aged. “T5” indicates that heat treatment and naturally aged. The hardness of AA6063-T6 would be higher than AA6061-T5.

Custom Aluminum Precision Parts

Aluminum alloys are alloys in which aluminum is the predominant metal. Aluminum becomes an alloy when it is combined with other elements such as iron, copper, magnesium, tin, silicon, and zinc. Aluminum alloys are available in various shapes and grades.

At Deeco Metals, we offer aluminum casting services to customers in a range of industries. Whether you need a part that’s functional, decorative or both, we can help. We have experience working with aluminum alloys of all types.
