DIAPHRAGM VALVES

If you want to learn more, please visit our website.

Diaphragm valves are bi-directional, on-off throttle valves. They are used to control fluid flow by regulating the area with which media can enter and exit the valve, effectively changing its speed and velocity.

Diaphragm Valves

What is a Diaphragm Valve

A Diaphragm Valve is a glandless valve that consists of a valve body, a flexible elastomeric diaphragm, and a seat (Weir/Saddle) upon which the diaphragm closes the valve. Diaphragm valves are designed for leak-proof control of abrasive and corrosive liquids, suspensions, slurries, and pulps.

Additionally, diaphragm valves provide an external seal, ensuring all moving parts are fully isolated from the wetted parts and the media being conveyed. These valves are ideal for applications requiring tight shut-off, accurate closure, and effective control in gas, liquid, suspended solids, and slurry applications. They are also perfect for acidic, corrosive, and abrasive environments with the appropriate materials and linings.

Diaphragm valves are typically available in two configurations: straight-thru Valve and weir type.

Straight-Thru Diaphragm Valve

This type of diaphragm valve is also known as a full bore diaphragm valve. In this design, the diaphragm seals over a seat, providing full flow capability with minimal pressure drop. These valves are typically used for on-off service. For more details on this type, consider reviewing the specifications from diaphragm valve straight through type.

Enhanced Weir Type

In this type of diaphragm valve, the diaphragm seals against a Weir or Saddle. Typically employed in throttling control applications, the TruTech enhanced weir valve minimizes pressure drop and ensures laminar flow characteristics akin to Straight Through valves.

Advantages

  • Designed for higher operating pressures (125 to 200 PSIG)
  • Compact design conforming to ASME/ANSI B16.10, interchangeable with most gate valves and short pattern plug and ball valves.
  • Ductile Iron construction for enhanced durability.
  • Streamlined laminar flow profiles with minimal pressure drop, thanks to Tru-Tech Valve body and Duo-Flex diaphragm.
  • Zero fugitive emissions by design, with a sealed bonnet available as an option.
  • The Duo-Flex diaphragm can be easily replaced in-line, and the straight-through design supports brush or rod cleaning.
  • Double-studded diaphragm for better seal and longer life.
  • Standard TGIC Polyester powder coating.
  • Standard Rising Stem and Travel Stop Nut for Manual Valves, and Adjustable Travel Stops on Pneumatic Actuated Valves.
  • Variety of valve body materials, coatings/linings, and diaphragm materials for chemical compatibility.

Diaphragm Options

Diaphragm valves are ideal for applications involving corrosive, abrasive media, or media containing solids in suspension or high-purity applications. Various body, body lining, and diaphragm material options are available to ensure chemical compatibility. The isolation of moving parts from the conveyed media ensures durability, and these valves' ability to be maintained in-line makes them user-friendly.
